Welcome to the new edition of Just Food’s quarterly digital magazine.

It’s no secret the plant-based meat category has lost its momentum, with sales coming under pressure in markets on both sides of the Atlantic.

But what’s the answer? In Europe, advocates for the sector believe the (still small in relative terms) industry needs more funding, including from government, as Simon Harvey explores in this issue’s cover story.

One part of the market that’s been particularly buoyant in recent quarters has been private label, with retailer brands finding favour as spending tightens. With signs of consumer confidence returning in some countries, we dig into the dynamics between brands and their own-label competitors.

And we see how food groups are navigating the challenges presented by water in their supply chains. Could regen ag provide a solution?
