Unilever to buy US supplements firm Grüns

Unilever has acquired US nutritional supplements company Grüns. Gummy supplements business Grüns was established in 2023 and valued at $500m during a Series B round in 2025. The purchase marked Unilever’s first acquisition since the group last month agreed to combine its food operations with McCormick & Co. Unilever is home to supplement brands including Olly, SmartyPants and Onnit.

Vandemoortele fails to satisfy UK concerns over Délifrance deal

The UK’s competition watchdog is to conduct an in-depth investigation into Vandemoortele’s acquisition of bakery peer Délifrance. Announced in March 2025, the deal raised competition concerns in the UK and the EU. Vandemoortele pledged in December to sell two Délifrance sites. While the European Commission provisionally approved the deal in December on those conditions, a buyer has not materialised, sparking a “phase two” probe by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority.

Hero Group eyes UK and overseas openings for The Gut Stuff

Hero Group believes it can improve The Gut Stuff’s presence in the UK snacks market and will start to take the business overseas after buying the fledgling gut-health brand. The Gut Stuff, set up in 2017, sells high-fibre snacks and drinks in the UK. Stockists include Tesco and The Co-op. Hero, the Swiss company home to brands including Deliciously Ella and Organix, has paid an undisclosed sum. Sisters Alana and Lisa MacFarlane, The Gut Stuff’s co-founders, will continue to lead the business, Hero said.

Vion sells two more German meat plants

Vion Food Group is selling two more slaughterhouses in Germany as part of a “strategic realignment” towards the Benelux region. The Dutch processor has signed agreements to offload its Waldkraiburg and Crailsheim sites to Boeser Frischfleisch and OSI Europe Foodworks, respectively. Vion began closing meat assets in Germany in 2023 and a year later announced plans to exit the German market entirely.
